Garden design & consultancy services
Where I work
Based in London and the Cotswolds I am available to work in either area or anywhere in between. Similarly, I can help with any size of garden from a compact central London courtyard through to an extensive parkland estate.
How I can help you
I will always tailor my approach to what best suits you and your garden but in broad terms the services that I can offer are:
Garden Design & Build
From initial concept and mood-boards through to a full masterplan and detailed planting and construction drawings. Shortlisting of landscape contractors and provision of a full tender package as well as management of the build if required. In all cases I will oversee the final planting.
Wildlife & Planting Consultancy
Advice and planting audits to improve the ecological health of your garden. From ideas on pollinator borders or hedgerow and habitat creation through to full planting schemes chosen to work more sustainably with the local landscape and resources.
Garden History & Site Research
Research into a garden or site’s history to inform a restoration or a new design — particularly useful for period properties, or any garden that may be hiding more of a past than it lets on.
The garden design process
If you are interested in the garden design service then the following is a breakdown of the process I use. In most cases each step of the process is required, unless otherwise noted, and my fees are calculated accordingly. Consultancy and individual research is carried out on a more ad-hoc basis depending on the requirements although in all cases I charge on a daily rate.
Initial consultation Meeting with the client to discuss their ideas, potential budget and requirements
Site survey Analysis of the garden and associated site including its physical characteristics and constraints, ecological profile, history and relevant local context
Sketch proposal Preliminary design layout and hard and soft landscaping ideas to be discussed and agreed with client
Overall master plan Confirmed design to include all hard and soft materials and a suggested planting palette. Visualisation available in 3D if requested
Planting plans Names, sizes, quantities and locations for both costing and final layout. To include a plant maintenance schedule if requested
Tender package All plans plus relevant construction and technical design details to be sent out to contractors to quote (either client own or as advised). To include a full bill of materials if requested
Construction stage Management of the build is also available on request and can be discussed as part of the tender package agreement either on a daily or hourly chargeable basis
